What is Christmas?

The season is here and somehow it feels different.  This year I’ve spent more time reflecting on what it is this season is all about.  Usually I find myself wrapped up in the worldly commotion and the latest gadgets.  I usually work hard to get my kids the newest greatest thing that’s come out this year.  But not this year.  This year, being the first one that I can recall, is the first year that I finished shopping by December 1.  I had a list and I stuck to it.  It was simple; it was small.  I usually feel pressure to keep buying if I finish before Christmas….but not today.  Today I sit back and reflect.  I reflect on what it is Christmas means to me.  Christmas is family; it’s tradition.  Christmas is a season where we can take precious time to invest in the people around us.  There’s a spirit about this season that is special.  A spirit of giving, loving and laughing.  It’s the time of year where everyone is just a little better.  We try harder to bless those around us..  Christmas is all of these things all wrapped up, but centered around the one who matters most… Jesus Christ. Without him there would be no Christmas.  Nothing to celebrate.  The feeling of warmth that this season brings would be lost to a dying world.  I love this time of year.  I wish somehow the spirit of Christmas would flow into the new year, never ceasing… But it does.  This year I will challenge myself to be better.  The best version of me that I can be.  I will be a better wife; a better mom; a better friend.  This year I will strive to be more like Christ.

Galatians 2:20  I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

I challenge you to do the same.  Let’s carry on this spirit of Christmas to every area of our life.  Let us work to be more like him and help those around us who are lost, hurting and broken.  Let us strive to apply Christ to every part of our lives.

From my home to yours… Merry Christmas!!
