Just me and God

When Flesh meets Spirit

At some point in life, if you are a child of God, you will face situations and people who don’t line up to who you’ve now become.  You’ll  find yourself with people who don’t see things the way you do.  This is when flesh meets spirit.  If there’s one thing I try to instill in my kids, it’s to teach them to stand out.  I want to teach them to ask questions.  I want their curiosity peaked.  I want them to love God like I do.  I want them to feel the burden to pray for people.  It tells me I’m doing something right.  There comes a time after salvation when friendships start to die off.  I have been called a “Jesus freak” or a “holy roller” and more or less shunned by some.  It just comes with the territory.  You will be mocked and ridiculed.  I’ve seen it happen first hand not only in my own walk, but in the life of my kids.  It’s something we can’t protect them from because it will inevitably happen.  What we CAN do for them is give them the tools to stand.

The book of Joshua is a great book on following God’s command and it’s got some pretty good promises!

Joshua 1:8-9  This book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth but you shall meditate therin day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for THEN you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.  Have not I commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid,  neither be thou dismayed; for the Lord your God is with you wheresoever you go. (all caps for emphasis.  Meditate and do God’s will THEN you will be blessed)

I like the last part where it says do not be afraid.  God knew that by meditating on his word and doing his will would definitely cause discord.  That is why he says be not afraid because He is with us.

This is a great story in the bible and it’s a wonderful example to give our kids, but first we have to make sure that we as parents do our best to actually BE the example for them.  We are who they’re watching and mimicking.  I find it’s been rather liberating to free myself of friendships that weren’t healthy.  It’s hard enough in life to keep going forward, but to have people surrounding you that only bring you down is a trap that you must fast escape.  When flesh meets spirit we’ve got to do what is really hard and follow spirit!!  I’m watching my kids grow into beautiful God loving people and my prayer for them is that they will find that at the end of their journey, heaven is home.
